The rules

The board

  • All 64 squares are in play

  • White moves first

Moves

  • No diagonals: men move straight forward, left, or right

Captures

  • Mandatory, maximum-capture
  • Men jump forward and sideways; kings along their lines, landing anywhere beyond
  • Kings never U-turn mid-sequence
  • Captured pieces come off immediately, opening new lines

Kings

  • A man reaching the last rank is crowned and stops; the new dama rules from the next move
